Pret A Manger unveils first full-service dine-in store in India
CEO Pano Christou said introducing table-service will enable the coffee and food-to-go chain to meet high demand for shared dining experiences in India
Pret A Manger has unveiled its first full-service concept globally at Phoenix Mall of the Millennium in Pune, India.
The coffee and food-to-go chain’s CEO Pano Christou said the 1,000sq ft store will cater to evolving consumer preferences for fresh, high-quality food while tapping into India’s strong tradition of shared family mealtimes.
“India has reimagined Pret in a way we’ve never seen before. The country’s rich tradition of dining together has inspired us to introduce our first-ever full-service concept – one that brings people together over fresh, high-quality food, served at their table. We are committed to bringing our signature Pret experience to more customers, blending global flavours with local tastes in a way that feels both familiar and new,” he said.
Departing from its grab-and-go roots to add table service to its offer, Pret’s sit-down menu includes Chicken Super Club, Pret Pickle and Chicken Sausage & Egg Croissant sandwiches, as well as Four Berry Chia Bowl and Fajita Cottage Cheese Hot Wrap.
Founded in London, UK, in 1986, Pret A Manger was acquired by Luxembourg-headquartered conglomerate JAB Holding company for a reported $1.5m in 2018. In June 2022, the chain entered a franchise agreement with Mumbai-based Reliance Brands Limited to launch in India, where it outlined plans to open 100 stores within five years. Since making its India debut with a site in Mumbai in April 2023, Pret has since scaled to 19 stores in the South Asian country.
Pret operates over 700 outlets across 20 markets globally, nearly three-quarters of which are in the UK. International revenues generated a quarter of the chain’s $1bn-plus revenues in 2024.
